California Consecrated to the Immaculate Heart by Several Parishes
Californian Catholics consecrated their State to the Immaculate Heart of Mary on the feast of the Immaculate Conception, December 8, 2018.
“We are a group of Catholics whose love for Our Lord and Mary has inspired us to consecrate California to Our Lady,” explained the leaders of BVM Blue Mantle, the association behind the initiative.
About twenty parishes accepted to organize gatherings where Masses would be celebrated in honor of the Immaculate Conception on December 8, 2018. These Masses were followed by processions, then the recitation of the Rosary and the consecration to the Immaculate Heart of Mary.
“Why consecrate California?” asked Blue Mantle on its website. The answer could hardly be clearer: “To defeat the culture of death, abortion, euthanasia, and natural disasters.”
The initiative received the impressive episcopal support of Archbishop Salvatore Cordileone, archbishop of San Francisco, and Bishop Vasa, bishop of Santa Rosa. They did not, however, get directly involved. And yet, it is the role of the Church’s hierarchy to guide the faithful, not the other way around!
