The Council of Cardinals Meets Again at the Vatican to Prepare Reforms

The Director of the Holy See Press Office, Greg Burke, announced that the new text that will abrogate the constitution Pastor Bonus, which has served as the basis for the Curia’s organization since 1988, “will take some time.”

Among the topics that will form the new document, four of them are “of particular importance,” explained Greg Burke:

The Roman Curia at the service of the Holy Father and of the particular Churches; the pastoral character of the curial activities; the establishment and functioning of the Third Section of the Secretariat of State; the proclamation of the Gospel and the missionary spirit as a perspective that characterizes the activity of the whole Curia.

The director of the Press Office also announced that Cardinal Sean O’Malley, president of the Pontifical Commission for the Protection of Minors, spoke to the C9, highlighting the “efforts that have been made to protect minors and vulnerable adults in the Church.”

Lastly, the cardinals listened to Monsignor Lucio Ruiz, the new secretary of the Secretariat for Communications, who updated them on the current state of reform of the Vatican communications system.

All the members of the C9 were present, with the exception of Cardinal George Pell who was detained in Australia by a legal procedure. The next meeting will take place from June 11 to 13, 2018.
