Tens of thousands of Peruvians participated in a march for the family in Lima on May 3, 2014. The participants were protesting against the bill for same sex civil union that was presented in Congress in September 2013, and that the Peruvian parliament has been examining since the end of May.

Along with Paraguay and Bolivia, Peru is one of the three Latin American countries that have not yet legalized same sex civil unions. According to a survey by Ipsos published in April 2014, and again by the AFP on May 27, 61% of Peruvians claim to be opposed to such a law.
