Seminarians From Econe Visit Sacred Heart Seminary in Zaitzkofen

It was a full house last week at the Society of Saint Pius X's (SSPX) international Sacred Heart Seminary in Zaitzkofen, Germany. Seminarians from the Society's mother seminary in Ecône, Switzerland paid a visit to experience Bavarian culture, nature, and hospitality.

Normally, it is rare for those attending SSPX seminaries to visit one another due to logistical hurdles. This year, however, it worked out.

After the Zaitzkofen candidates for the priesthood visited Ecône two years ago on the occasion of the reburial of Archbishop Marcel Lefebvre's mortal remains, a return visit has now taken place. The result was that the Sacred Heart Seminary chapel was filled almost exclusively with seminarians and clerics, making it challenging for religious sisters and guests to find a place. In order to accomodate the visitation, Zaitzkofen seminarians shared their rooms with their brothers from Ecône.

During the day, both groups of seminarians went on a hike from Kehlheim to Weltenburg and back, past the Danube Gorge. In the Weltenburg monastery church, the clergy prayed Sext and then had a snack on the banks of the Danube. On the following day, the Swiss seminarians were given a guided tour of Regensburg in the morning and visited the beautiful Mallersdorf church and monastery brewery in the afternoon, known for its master brewer, Sister Doris. After such eventful days, the beer at the end of the evening tasted twice as good.

As Psalm 132 says: Ecce quam bonum et quam iucundum habitare fratres in unum (See how good and sweet it is when brothers dwell in harmony).
