The Italian authorities plan to remove the words “mother” and “father” from the identity documents of minors, as confirmed by Interior Minister Luciana Lamorgese in an intervention in Parliament.

The author of the Divine Comedy warned the reader: “When your sight wants to penetrate too far into the darkness, it happens that by imagining you go astray.” (Dante Alighieri, The Divine Comedy, Inferno, canto XXXI.)

A warning that supporters of gender ideology on the other side of the Alps do not seem to have taken into account: already in 2015, the terms “father” and “mother” had been removed from documents certifying the identity of Italian minors.

A measure that Matteo Salvini—future and ephemeral President of the Council—repealed in 2018, in his capacity as Minister of the Interior.

Two years later, the liberal government of Giuseppe Conte seems to want to make a clean sweep of the past: thus, the current Minister of the Interior, Luciana Lamorgese, declared in mid January 2021 in front of the deputies, his wish to give again “non-gender” identity papers to the minors of the country.

No wonder: for a long time, several pressure groups have been demanding from Italy the cancellation of the measures taken by Matteo Salvini on the pretext that they would be “discriminatory” with regard to homosexual couples who have chosen to adopt a child.

“The reintroduction of the terms ‘parent 1’ and ‘parent 2’ is intended to ensure compliance with the regulatory framework introduced by the European Union, and to resolve certain difficulties likely to infringe on privacy,” said the minister.

Anyway, Luciana Lamorgese persists and signs: the use of the terms “father” and “mother” becomes problematic “since the guardian of the minor is neither the father nor the mother.”

Clearly, we must not be afraid of the burlesque, to claim to abolish an immemorial law of humanity, rooted in all civilizations, to justify unnatural behavior.

However, the head of government, Giuseppe Conte, having announced his resignation for this Tuesday, January 26, it seems that the measure will have to wait ...
