The Brothers’ Novitiate in Winona, MN hosted a Jubilee Weekend to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the blessing of the cornerstone of the building.

Faithful came from the mission chapels in Madison, Mukwonago, Necedah, Green Bay, the twin cities, St. Cloud, Bremer, Crookston, and even some from St. Marys, KS.

The weekend began with Mass, followed by a pancake and bacon breakfast. Field games followed, which included volleyball, flag football, soccer, horseshoes, and even hockey (on the basketball court).

After the Brothers sang the office of Sext in the tent, a lunch of hamburgers and hot dogs was served. Soon after, the concession stands opened, where religious articles, such as crucifixes, missals, books, and pictures were made available. The snow cone stand was a big attraction as well. At the same time, guided tours of the building were offered for faithful to learn some history about the building itself.

Toward the evening, Fr. Ward gave a conference in the tent centered on Our Lady. A Rosary procession followed, as the Brothers carried a statue of Our Lady of Fatima. To close the evening, the Brothers sang Compline in the tent, and then held an adoration of the Blessed Sacrament until midnight.

On Sunday, the day opened with the office of Lauds, and then a sung Mass in the tent. After a lunch of pulled pork sandwiches, another conference followed, which was centered on the green scapular of Our Lady. A Rosary procession followed.

After the procession, faithful were free for more games and concessions. Toward the evening, a beer tent was set up for faithful to enjoy as they were entertained with live music, courtesy of two of the faithful.

To close the evening, the Brothers sang Compline, and met the faithful outside for a bonfire, where beer and popcorn were enjoyed.

This Jubilee weekend will now be an annual event, and will give the faithful an opportunity of benefiting from the grace of seeing the Brothers up close, and at the same time building friendships and enjoying the company of fellow Catholics.
