France/Africa: Progressive Colonialism

The French Development Agency (Afd) is accused by an American NGO of funding abortion in French-speaking Africa through a program that officially claims to promote the defense of women's rights on the African continent.

Human Life International (HLI) is a pro-life organization based in the United States. Among other arrows in its quiver is one of being a whistleblower attentive to news that calls the right to life into question, which often passes under the radar of Western media.

So, what happened on February 7, 2023, in Nairobi, Kenya? Through the voice of its ambassador, the French government has announced that it will support with up to nearly 8 million euros, through the Afd, a program intended to fight violence against women in Africa.

A priori, they can only support an initiative which, at first sight, would improve the condition of women in several countries such as Kenya, Ethiopia, Côte d'Ivoire, Burkina Faso, and Niger, to name only the main ones.

But it is well known that the devil has a knack for hiding in the details: the program financed by the Afd is the Feminist Opportunities Now (FON), an organization which claims on its webpage to “strengthen the capacities of feminist organizations, through grants, to enhance the diversity and resilience of civil society organizations when addressing and responding to gender-based violence, inequality, discrimination, and other human rights violations linked to gender.” What could be hiding behind this verbiage full of talking points?

According to Human Life International, the FON program is supposed to be carried out in close cooperation with the International Planned Parenthood Federation, the global abortion giant. “Abortion and all the ‘services’ that can be attached to it are subtly concealed,” denounced George Wirnkar, regional director of HLI for French-speaking Africa, on March 13.

Another fact that does not deceive: the launch of the campaign financed by the Afd took place during the presentation of the report of the Guttmacher Institute, a research center openly supported by the abortion industry and which claims eight million abortions per year on the African continent.

These figures make Emil Hagamu dizzy. The regional director of Human Life International for Africa, denounces a “so-called civilized West, which sends millions of dollars to Africa to finance abortion and contraception, so many things that African women have not asked for.”

And he notes with common sense: “Any program that really seeks to end gender-based violence should seek to provide healthy support for women, which values life for them, rather than serving to kill their children.”

This massacre of innocent people on the African continent, subsidized by so-called “colonial” powers, is undoubtedly the worst form of colonization. But, perhaps there are not enough wars on this continent? Wars that have killed 5 million children in 20 years. But the “West” is being much more efficient by killing 8 million unborn children per year.

One thing is certain, the homeland of the “Enlightenment” no longer has power at all levels, especially when it supports a project that works so crudely against women's rights. Because the facts are stubborn: 51% of children aborted in Africa – more than 4 million – are female. In terms of a commitment to end violence against women, who does it better?
