The 41 members of the General Chapter being held in Econe are mostly superiors in office. The members of this assembly by virtue of their office are: the Superior General, his Assistants, the Secretary General and the General Bursar, the former Superior Generals, the auxiliary bishops of the Society, the directors of seminaries, District Superiors, and Superiors of autonomous houses. Altogether there are 31 of them.
Bishop Bernard Fellay, of Swiss nationality, is the outgoing Superior General. Elected in 1994, he was ordained a priest in 1982 by Archbishop Lefebvre and served as General Bursar. Consecrated a bishop in 1988, he is currently 60 years old.
Fr. Niklaus Pfluger, also Swiss, is currently First Assistant, and has been a priest for 34 years. Ordained by Archbishop Lefebvre in 1984, he is 59 years old. He has served as District Superior of both Switzerland and Germany, and as rector of the Herz Jesu Seminary in Zaitzkofen (Germany).
Fr. Alain-Marc Nély, a Frenchman, is currently Second Assistant and has been a priest since 1985. Ordained by Archbishop Lefebvre, he was stationed in the south of France, first at the school of Saint-Joseph des Carmes near Carcassone, then in Marseille, before becoming the District Superior of Italy. He is 68 years old.
Fr. Christian Thouvenot, a Frenchman, was ordained a priest by Bishop de Galarreta in the year 2000. He was first stationed in Paris, at the Institut Universitaire Saint-Pie X, before becoming Secretary General in 2008. He is 51 years old.
Fr. Pablo Enrique Suárez, an Argentinian, has been a priest since 2001. Ordained by Bishop de Galarreta, he served for many years as bursar for the district of South America, before becoming General Bursar in 2014. He is 51 years old.
Bishop Bernard Tissier de Mallerais is an auxiliary bishop of the Society. He was serving as Secretary General at the time of his consecration in 1988. He was one of the first seminarians in Econe, where Archbishop Lefebvre ordained him a priest in 1975. He is French, but currently resides in Chicago; he was the rector of the Seminary of St. Pius X in Econe from 1979 to 1983. He is 73 years old.
Bishop Alfonso de Galarreta is an auxiliary bishop of the SSPX. He is Spanish and was ordained a priest in 1982 in Buenos Aires, Argentina, where he lived for many years. He directed the Seminary of Our Lady Coredemptrix in La Reja and the Autonomous House of Spain and Portugal. He has been living in Geneva since 2012. He is 61 years old.
Fr. Franz Schmidberger is German and has been a priest since December 8, 1975. He was Archbishop Lefebvre’s first successor as Superior General in 1982. In 1994 he was elected First Assistant. He directed the districts of Austria and Germany before becoming rector of the Herz Jesu Seminary in Zaitzkofen. He is 70 years old.
Fr. Benoît de Jorna has been rector of the Seminary of St. Piux X in Econe since 1996. He is French and was ordained a priest in 1984 by Archbishop Lefebvre. He has been stationed in Paris and at the seminary in Flavigny-sur-Ozerain. He is 66 years old.
Fr. Yves le Roux directs the St. Thomas Aquinas Seminary in Dillwyn. He is 53 years old, French, and was ordained by Bishop Williamson in 1990. He was stationed in Switzerland and then Canada, before becoming rector of the Society’s North American seminary.
Fr. Patrick Troadec is the rector of the Saint-Curé d’Ars Seminary in Flavigny, France. He is French and has been a priest since 1988; he was prior in Lyon for eight years before taking over the spirituality year and the Brothers’ novitiate. He is 57 years old.
Fr. David Pagliarani has been in charge of the Seminary of Our Lady Coredemptrix in La Reja, Argentina, since 2012. The 47-year-old Italian received the sacrament of Holy Orders in 1996 from Bishop Fellay. He was stationed in Rimini then Singapore before becoming the District Superior of Italy.
Fr. Daniel Themann directs the Holy Cross Seminary in Goulburn, Australia. He is 37 years old, American, and has ordained a priest in 2009 by Bishop Tissier de Mallerais. He spent his first six years as a priest in the United States.
