The Holy See's press office turned over to the Secretariat for Communication
January 29, 2016
Monsignor Dario Viganò.
Placed since its creation under the authority of the Secretary of State, the Press Office of the Holy See was discretely handed over on January 1, 2016, to the responsibility of the Secretariat for Communication, the agency I.Media learned from Vatican sources.
Destined to ultimately regroup all the Vatican media, the new dicastery - created in June 2015 and directed by Monsignor Dario Viganò - is henceforth in charge of administering the Press Office's work and managing its personnel. But for now, the Press Office is still under the authority of the Secretary of State as far as official communications on the pope and the Holy See's activity go. The reform plan that aims to unify the Vatican's different means of communication is supposed to take four years. The statutes for the Secretariat are currently being drawn up and could be published before summer.
