Month of the Sacred Heart: Heart of Jesus, Our Peace and Reconciliation

June 25, 2019

“All you that are burdened, I will refresh you – reficiam vos – and you shall find rest to your souls, for my yoke is sweet and my burden light” (Mt. 11:29).

Each one of these words of hope and truth deserves attentive meditation…

The Heart of Jesus calls and chooses those who are the most burdened; all throughout His public life, He was faithful to them; He consoled, healed, taught and above all forgave, for He knew that what burdens us is remorse and that for our souls that are made for the good and the true and that seek after an ideal, that is to say, God, the evil that separates us from Him and takes Him from us is too heavy a burden…

“Come,” He says, “and I will refresh you!” Refreshing us, unfortunate exiles from Eden, means reforming in us the image of God that we have disfigured; it means coming up out of the abyss to pure and vivifying summits, putting all things back in order, and singing once again, “Glory to God! Peace to man!”; it means lightening the burden, taking off the yoke!
