A crucifix made from data collected on the Shroud of Turin will soon be installed in the Gravesano Church in Ticino.

Indeed, in the autumn parish bulletin of Gravesano, Bedano, and Manno, the parish priest Don Massimo announced the imminent installation of this new crucifix in the apse of the parish church of St. Peter and St. Paul. The painting of St. Helena’s discovery of the Holy Cross in Jerusalem will then be moved to the left aisle.

Antonio Cassanelli, director of the Giulio Ricci Diocesan Center for Syndonology, who proposed the crucifix, says it faithfully reproduces “in the dimensions, in the position, in the wounds, the body of Jesus on the cross as evidenced by the Shroud.”

Looking at the Shroud crucifix, he continues, we can reread the Passion of Jesus: “the scourging, the crowning with thorns, the Way of the Cross, the falls, the crucifixion with three nails, the piercing of His side.”

“By praying before the Shroud crucifix, we can contemplate, “the Crucified One” in all its dramatic reality as Mary and John saw Him at the foot of the cross, and realize how great is the love of Jesus for us.”
