Vatican: Two New Stamps

June 04, 2021

Vatican Post has issued two stamps to commemorate the occasion of the 90th anniversary of Vatican Radio and the 160th anniversary of L’Osservatore Romano.

Dedicated to the pontificate of Pope Francis, the stamps show the first microphone of Vatican Radio (€ 1.15) and then the first page of the first issue of L’Osservatore Romano (€ 2.40).

On the plate uniting the two stamps, one can observe on the left side the statue of Archangel Gabriel, proclaimed patron of communication and Vatican Radio by Pius XII in 1951, as a symbol of those who, through the media, spread the good news of the gospel.

The world map in the background symbolizes the dissemination of the Christian message by the Church, faithful to the command given by Our Lord: “Go ye into the whole world, and preach the gospel to every creature” (Mk 16:15).
