In honor of the 50th anniversary of its promulgation, 500 British priests have signed a statement recalling that the teachings of the encyclical Humanae Vitae on conjugal morality still apply today.
“As priests we desire to affirm on this 50th anniversary of Humanae Vitae the noble vision of procreative love as the Catholic Church has always taught and understood it,” reads the letter signed by nearly 500 priests in the United Kingdom and published on June 14, 2018.
The initiative is called Humanae Vitae 50. Its goal is to make the voices of the priests heard, seeing in the encyclical promulgated on July 25, 1968, a prophetic warning:

Humanae Vitae 50 is also a response to those seeking to water down the traditional teaching of the Church on conjugal morality; we have not forgotten that on December 14, 2017, Fr. Maurizio Chiodi, a member of the Pontifical Academy for Life, did not hesitate to claim that responsible parenthood could go hand in hand with birth control….
