Jesus among the doctors

This is the work that the second advent will produce in us, “therefore, as we have borne the image of the earthly, let us bear also the image of the heavenly” man. (1 Cor. 15:49).

And just as the old Adam had spread himself throughout the entire man and occupied him wholly, so Christ will possess us entirely, as He created and redeemed us wholly, as He will glorify us wholly, and how He saved us all on the Sabbath day.

The old man was formerly in us. He filled us so much that this prevaricator acted through our hands, spoke through our mouths, was loved in our hearts. Our hands, he made them twice guilty by dedicating them to crime and to shameful actions; our mouth he opened at the same time to arrogance and detraction, and our heart he filled with the desires of the flesh and the love of temporal glory.

But today, if we have become a new creature again, all that was old has passed away, and innocence has taken the place of crime in our hands, continence has taken the place of shameful actions; in our mouths words of confession have followed those of arrogance and uplifting speeches have replaced those of detraction; so that the talks of the past have moved away from our lips. As for the heart, charity has replaced the desires of the flesh and humility the love of temporal glory.
