Argentina: FIFA World Cup Trophy Presented to Our Lady of Lujan
Argentine Football Federation (AFA) President Claudio Fabian Tapia has presented the International Association Football Federation (FIFA) World Cup to the country's patron saint, Our Lady of Lujan.
Argentina's national pilgrimage site wrote in a statement that it “felt great joy” for this “gesture of gratitude.” The rector of the sanctuary and the basilica, Lucas Garcia, then led a prayer of thanksgiving for this victory.
After the Argentina national football team won the World Cup, Lionel Messi said for him winning the World Cup was a gift from God.
It should be remembered that the Argentine football player had undertaken to make a pilgrimage dedicated to the Virgin Mary in the event of Argentina's victory in the 2018 world championship, which took place in Russia.
At the time, interviewed by journalists from the TyC Sports television channel, Lionel Messi had started from his hometown of Rosario and walked to the town of San Nicolas de los Arroyos, in the province of Buenos Aires, to honor and thank the Virgin Mary. The pilgrimage of more than 70 kilometers requires about 14 hours of walking.
It has not been reported that this pilgrimage was completed, but the player was able to do discreetly. Still, the trophy was finally given to the national sanctuary of Our Lady of Lujan. It must be admitted that this is not a common thing and that one will not see in many countries.
