“Sede vacante 2005” stamps

 Three “Sede vacante 2005” (Vacant See 2005), stamps, traditionally issued on the death of the pope by the philatelic and numismatic Office of the Governor of the Vatican City, depicting the coat of arms of the Apostolic Chamber presided over by the camerlingo cardinal. These stamps, numbering more than two millions, were printed in France; they have a postal value as long as the new pope remains unelected.


Rome’s main railway station to be renamed John Paul II

 The largest railway station in Italy is to take the name of the deceased pope. According to Radio Vatican, the president of the Italian Railway, Giancarlo Cimoli, has granted the request of the mayor of Rome, Walter Veltroni, to rename the “Stazione Termini” in Rome, “Stazione Giovanni Paolo II”. However, a date for the change has not yet been fixed.


Date of the beatification of Charles de Foucauld postponed

 The beatification of Charles de Foucauld, initially planned for May 15, 2005, has been postponed. It will be the next pope who will decide the date, said the postulator of the cause of the hermit of the Hoggar, Mgr. Maurice Bouvier.
