For his departure to the Czech Republic, the first Apostolic Nuncio in the history of South Sudan was celebrated by representatives from all seven of the country’s dioceses.

Bishop Erkolano Lodu, bishop of Yei, spoke in Juba on October 18, 2018, in the name of the Catholic bishops of South Sudan, declaring that the name of Archbishop Charles Daniel Balvo has become a part of the history of the Church in South Sudan.

The prelate recalled that the nuncio, even though he resided in Nariobi, did his best over the past five years to visit all the dioceses in South Sudan, except for Yei because of the extremely difficult conditions.

Archbishop Paolino Lukudu Loro, archbishop of Juba, insisted on this joint farewell from the seven dioceses of South Sudan, who are full of gratitude to the nuncio for his apostolic action.

The new nuncio to South Sudan, Monsignor Mark Kadima, who is a native of Kenya and will be the first to reside in the country permanently, thanked all those who worked to help Archbishop Balvo during his mission.

Archbishop Balvo declared emotionally that he will always remember South Sudan in his new mission in the Czech Republic, and that he will always pray for the Christians in the country in order that peace may take root.
