The Coliseum to Don the Color of the Blood of the Martyrs

On February 24, 2018, the Roman Coliseum and the most important churches in Syria and Iraq will be entirely lit up in red as a reminder of the martyrdom Christians in various parts of the world are suffering for their Faith.
The association Aide à l’Eglise en détresse - AED (Aid of the Church in Distress) is behind this initiative. The director, Alessandro Monteduro, confided to Crux that the illumination of the Coliseum in red will pay homage to the witness of two women: Asia Bibi, condemned to death in Pakistan for a supposed “blasphemy” against Islam; and Rebecca, a mother kidnapped by Boko Haram in Nigeria and sold as a slave before finally managing to escape.
AED recalled in a report published in October of 2017 that in 13 countries, the situation of Christians considerably worsened between 2015 and 2017, with “peaks of persecution” in the Middle East, Africa, and Asia.
Not to mention the 70,000 Christians estimates say are imprisoned in North Korean gulags, and whom the Winter Olympics in Pyongchang, placed under the sign of “reconciliation”, seem all to ready to forget. Panem et circenses…
