On Sunday, July 16, the Priory of Bogota, Colombia, organized a pilgrimage to the Basilica of Our Lady of the Rosary of Chiquinquirá, celebrated on July 9, the sanctuary of which is located 135 km from Bogota.

The superior of the Autonomous House of Central America and the Caribbean, Fr. Ezequiel Rubio had asked all the priories of the Autonomous House to organize an annual pilgrimage on the occasion of the country’s patronal feast. In Colombia, the patron saint is Our Lady of the Rosary of Chiquinquirá.

After a meeting in November with the Rector of the Church, Fr. Carlos Mario Alzate, of the Order of Friars Preachers, the priory was authorized, with the consent of the bishop, to celebrate Mass at the main altar of the Virgin, on Sunday, July 16, in the Commemoration of Our Lady of Mount Carmel, which this year fell on a Sunday.

In the presence of the Superior of the Autonomous House, Fr. Rubio, and all the priests of the Priory, as well as the fervent assistance of about 700 faithful, joined by those present in the Basilica, a solemn Mass was sung before the miraculous image of Our Lady of Chiquinquirá, which had not happened for more than 50 years!

The schola was directed by Fr. Pablo Bianchetti from the gallery, where the organ and choir, composed of faithful from the various chapels, raised their voices to the Patron Saint of Colombia in a great hymn of gratitude and thanksgiving.

At the end of the Mass, Fr. Rubio dedicated the entire Autonomous House to the maternal protection of the Queen of Colombia, the Blessed Virgin.
