The Communist Star Hides the Cross in China - For Now

On June 5, 2018, the Communist Chinese authorities of the province of Henan demolished the Stations of the Cross at the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Mount Carmel, in the diocese of Anyang.
In May 2018, the Communists clearly announced their intentions: the Way of the Cross in Anyang was to be taken down, for no particular reason.
A few weeks earlier, in February, an official letter was published forbidding all religious hymns in the province.
The vehicles used to demolish the stations arrived at dusk in the beginning of June, to avoid any opposition from the Catholics: “you can exist, but not develop”, the Communist officials had told the faithful.
The sanctuary of Our Lady of Mount Carmel is the only pilgrimage site in the diocese of Henan. It was founded in the early 20th century in honor of the Blessed Virgin Mary, to thank her for protecting the missionaries during the Boxer persecution.
In 1987, the local Chinese government sent armed vehicles to supervise the 50,000 pilgrims gathered at the site.
Henan has 300,000 Catholics, making it the second largest diocese of the Catholic Church in the country after Zhejiang.
