Donald Trump Stands as Champion in the Defense of Life

“As the Bible tells us, each person is wonderfully made.”—the tone is set by the American head of state, who is not afraid to use a religious vocabulary in order to denounce abortion. A freedom of tone which contrasts with the political correctness so widespread in Western countries, including among religious leaders.

Let us judge: “All of us here understand an eternal truth: Every child is a precious and sacred gift from God. Together, we must protect, cherish, and defend the dignity and the sanctity of every human life. When we see the image of a baby in the womb, we glimpse the majesty of God's creation. When we hold a newborn in our arms, we know the endless love that each child brings to a family. When we watch a child grow, we see the splendor that radiates from each human soul.”

Donald Trump paid tribute to those who have campaigned against the crime of abortion for almost half a century: “The life movement is led by strong women, amazing faith leaders, and brave students who carry on the legacy of pioneers before us…You embrace mothers with care and compassion. You are empowered by prayer and motivated by your unselfish love.”

The American president, who is Presbyterian, made a point of recalling the decisions which he took in favor of the life since taking office, positioning himself as the natural leader of this movement: “Unborn children have never had a stronger defender in the White House…And we’re taking care of doctors, nurses, teachers, and groups like the Little Sisters of the Poor. We are preserving faith-based adoption….”

Donald Trump, running for a second term, castigated “the far left [which] is working to erase our God-given rights, shut down faith-based charities, ban religious leaders from the public square, and silence Americans who believe in the sanctity of life. They are coming after me because I am fighting for you and we are fighting for those who have no voice.”

He also denounced the attitude of his political opponents: “Democrats have embraced the most radical and extreme positions taken and seen in this country for years and decades, and you can even say, for centuries. Among these positions, the New York law allowing the killing of a baby until his delivery, or the declaration of the governor of Virginia in favor of infanticide ...

Paying tribute to initiatives helping women to keep their children, or making it possible to find homes for newborns, the American president encouraged families and recalled that “every human life, born and unborn, is made in the holy image of Almighty God.”

Activists from the March for Life went home comforted. In several states, they are entering the legal field with a hope: that the Supreme Court will rule for the overturning of the infamous Roe v. Wade judgment which, in 1973, opened the door to the decriminalization of abortion and and to the murder of millions of unborn children.

A vain hope? The answer will come from the polls on Tuesday, November 3, 2020.
