A quarter of all European seminarians are Polish. Bishop Marek Solarcyk, president of the National Council for Pastoral Vocations, revealed this to the Polish press on April 18.

Last fall, 664 young men entered the seminary. In all, the Polish dioceses count 3091 candidates for the priesthood. The congregations and religious orders are forming 1864 future priests. The number of young men entering the seminary in Poland has remained practically unchanged since 2008. The year 2005 was exceptional, with 1145 entries.

On the other hand, female religious orders have decreased by 50% in the last decade. After 550 entries into the noviciate in 2000, there were only 226 last year. The number of religious in training has dropped under 1000: only 984 at present.
