Around 10,000 faithful came to Fatima for the pilgrimage organized by the SSPX on August 19 and 20 for the centenary of the apparitions of Our Lady.

The Solemn Mass for the opening of this pilgrimage was celebrated by Father Franz Schmidberger, Rector of the SSPX's German seminary, assisted by Father Karl Stehlin, Superior of the District of Asia as deacon, and Father Pascal Schreiber, Superior of the District of Switzerland as subdeacon. The Superior General, Bishop Bernard Fellay, assisted at the Mass along with Their Excellencies Bishops Bernard Tissier de Mallerais and Alfonso de Galarreta as well as 275 priests and seminarians.

In addition to France, which sent faithful from all over the country, Germany was represented by around 1,000 pilgrims. Switzerland had 500 more and America added some 250 faithful. Countless other delegations came from around the world, including the Philippines, Singapore, and Japan.

During his sermon, Fr. Schmidberger reminded the pilgrims how relevant the message of Our Lady of Fatima is, inviting them to offer up their sufferings so that the Church might overcome Her present crisis and for the triumph of the immaculate Heart of Mary.
