Msgr. Bernard Podvin, spokesman for the bishops of France, announced to the press on February 19, that because of Pope Benedict XVI’s resignation and the conclave scheduled for mid-March, the springtime plenary assembly of the Bishops’ Conference of France (CEF), which was to be held in Lourdes, from March 19 to 22, has been rescheduled.

The plenary assembly, which is to elect the new president of the Bishops’ Conference to succeed Cardinal André Vingt-Trois, archbishop of Paris, will be held in Paris, from April 16 to 18. Besides Cardinal Vingt-Trois, three other French cardinals will participate in the conclave: Cardinal Philippe Barbarin, archbishop of Lyon, Cardinal Jean-Pierre Ricard, archbishop of Bordeaux, and Cardinal Jean-Louis Tauran, president of the Pontifical Council for Interreligious Dialogue.
