In France, the diocese of Bordeaux has put two churches up for sale on a private sales website. According to the French newspaper 20 Minutes in an article published on its website on December 3, the buyer is a realty promoter. One of the buildings, situated in the city of Talence, should make 16 apartments. “The Church has fewer financial resources and has to make more choices,” explained Fr. Jean Rouet, vicar general of the diocese of Bordeaux, in the same addition of the free newspaper. “I can understand the emotion, families certainly have memories there. But reality is there. Donations and selling our patrimony are our only resources, and these transactions will enable us to finance renovations on buildings that are actually frequented, or to build new ones,” he continued. “There is nothing new about this and the buildings have no architectural value,” he added further in La Croix  on December 4, 2013.

The sale of the two sites for 650,000€ and 500,000€ respectively should allow the other church of Talence to be renovated and partially finance the construction of a place of worship, Notre-Dame-du-Lac, in a new area of Bordeaux, the “Ginko”.
