On February 13th, in an interview with German daily Die Welt, Father Franz Schmidberger, District Superior of the Society of St. Pius X (SSPX) in Germany, said that dialogue with the Vatican was not broken, while reaffirming that full recognition of Vatican II, “no ifs, ands, or buts,” could not be considered by the FSSPX, because “the Council has brought about a devastating loss of faith, a decline in morality and the ravaging of the liturgy.” The former Superior General of the SSPX succinctly made his point that this is why concessions on issues such as religious freedom or the meaning of the priesthood are not acceptable to the Society.
