Happy Feast of Our Lady of La Salette

Over 170 years ago, on September 19, 1846, Our Lady appeared to two children on the mountain of La Salette in the Isère region of France.

The Blessed Virgin, sitting and weeping in the midst of a resplendent light, spoke of Heaven’s sorrow at the offenses and sins committed: disrespect for the Sunday precept not to work; swearing and blasphemies against Her Divine Son; a careless attitude towards Mass and during Lent. The bishop of Grenoble recognized the authenticity of this apparition five years later.

The construction of a great basilica began immediately, and the secrets of La Salette confided to each of the two children, Melanie and Maximin, were sent to Pope Pius IX.
