His Lordship, Bishop Huonder has given his soul back to God
His Lordship, Bishop Huonder has given his soul back to God.
It is with great sadness that we learn that His Lordship, Bishop Vitus Huonder passed away today, Easter Wednesday. He surrendered his soul to God after a short illness, knowing full well that it was a terminal illness.
He was hospitalised on the Feast of Saint Joseph, 19th March 2024. The diagnosis of his illness was made known on 25th March, Holy Monday, which was also the Feast of the Annunciation. From that moment onwards, Bishop Huonder showed himself perfectly docile to Divine Providence, and continually offered his sufferings for the Catholic Church. He also showed constant gratitude to the Society of Saint Pius X, and in particular the Institut Sancta Maria, in Wangs (Switzerland), where he was able to spend his last few years, with the profound joy of still fulfilling a beautiful ministry as a shepherd of souls, and was an admirable example of prayer and love for the Blessed Sacrament.
We recommend his soul to your fervent prayers, so that he may reach eternal happiness, as quickly as possible.
The details concerning his funeral will be published as soon as they are available.
