Iraq: The perpetrators of the attack on the cathedral in Baghdad sentenced to death

On February 2nd, the Iraqi Supreme Court ratified the death sentence of the three perpetrators of the attack against the Syriac Cathedral of Baghdad on October 31, 2010. The assault launched by the security forces caused the deaths of 52 hostages and policemen and left 67 injured. The three Islamists linked to al Qaeda had taken hostage the faithful who were attending Sunday Mass. A spokesman for the Supreme Court stated on February 2nd that the final sentence must be sent to the Iraqi president’s office so that it can issue a decree calling on the Department of Justice to enforce the judgment.
