On October 23, 24 and 25 at Rimini, on the Adriatic coast of northern Italy, was held the 18th Colloquy of Catholic Studies, organized by the Priestly Society of St. Pius X and presided over by Msgr. Bernard Fellay.  The theme was “The Society's 40 Years and its Combat in the Service of the Church to Maintain the Faith”.

The colloquy began Friday evening with a slide-show briefly retracing the Society's history, followed by a commentary by Bishop Fellay.

Saturday, a series of conferences touched on the crisis in the Church, its causes and its hopes in the present situation.  Fr. Davide Pagliarani, superior of the district of Italy, gave a remarkable talk.  With great rigor, he explained the consequences of the hermeneutics of continuity, advocated by Benedict XVI.  He recalled that since the rule of the Faith is the Magisterium, which is supposed to interpret the sources of Revelation, to affirm that Vatican Council II was misunderstood and must still be reinterpreted after 40 years signifies that it has failed in its magisterial role.  Fr. Pagliarani will be present at the next theological congress of the Courrier de Rome in Paris, on January 7, 8 and 9, 2011. (see DICI n°222)

After him, the journalist Alessandro Gnocchi analyzed the recent events in the Church and the future perspectives for Tradition.  In a beautiful apologetical conference, professor Corrado Gnerre demonstrated that God is Catholic, and he was followed by the author Cristina Siccardi, who explained what led her to write a biography of Msgr. Lefebvre.  She also showed how studying the life of this bishop and getting to know the Society of St. Pius X helped her to understand the present situation in the Church.

The colloquy ended Sunday with a pontifical high Mass celebrated by Msgr. Fellay at the Priory of Our Lady of Loretto in Rimini.
