Paraguay Takes Steps Towards Protecting and Honoring the Family

Mario Abdo Benitez
The newly elected president of Paraguay, Mario Abdo Benitez, has honored one of his campaign promises, signing a political commitment to protect life on April 4, 2018.
In this profession of faith, the new executive leader promises to “respect, protect, defend, and promote” life from the moment of conception until the moment of natural death, and the family “composed of a father, a mother, and children,” as the natural base of society.
Mario Abdo Benitez also promises to protect the fundamental rights of families, especially that of providing a moral and religious education to their children, in keeping with the faith and values of the parents. And this at a time when other Latin American countries are imposing the Gender theory in child education.
The Constitution of Paraguay – a 90% Catholic country – explicitly recognizes to the right to life from the moment of conception, and marriage as the union of a man and a woman.
The document was prepared by the movement We Are Many, Many More (SMMM), to which many different lay organizations belong. The text was signed by six presidential candidates.
