A Capuchin missionary has been arrested by Turkish police for having baptized a 26 year old Muslim at Iskenderun, a village close to the border with Syria. Fr. Roberto Ferrari is at present under judicial investigation and his passport has been confiscated, the daily Italian newspaper Avvenire confirmed on Tuesday.

Fr. Ferrari, 70, has been a missionary in Turkey for 45 years. He recently baptized a young Muslim who had explicitly asked for baptism and had followed a course of formation for catechumens. However the young man afterwards denounced the priest to the authorities, fellow Capuchin Mario Cappuci explained to the daily paper of the Italian Bishops Conference.
