Poland: Victim of the Woke Pandemic

Cour suprême de Pologne
In Poland, some recent Supreme Court decisions highlight the renewed attacks by the ruling coalition and a largely progressive judiciary against the values traditionally defended by the Church. Some observers denounced this systematic undermining of the Christian foundations of society.
Time zones are not the only difference between the United States and the Old Continent. So-called "societal" laws are just as different, if not more so. While in the U.S., the new occupant of the White House has signaled end of the woke revolution, in Poland, progressive advocates are scoring points.
This is particularly true on the issue of the civil status of sex changes, modestly renamed "gender transitions." Until now, the legal framework for this practice was based on a combination of medical diagnoses and court decisions, without any specific law. Most often a juvenile applicant for transition surgery had to file a lawsuit against their parents. But everything changed on March 4, 2025.
The major decision taken on that date by the Polish Supreme Court marked a turning point. In a resolution described as "revolutionary" by some in the Polish press, the Court simplified this procedure, allowing for faster recognition of the civil status of gender reassignment, without going through a trial.
This decision, hailed by progressive lobbies, aimed at aligning Poland with European standards of morality distorted by a woke twist. This decision came under pressure from the pro-European coalition in power since December 2023, led by Donald Tusk. The latter makes no secret of his desire to fundamentally transform Polish society.
Thus, the Polish Prime Minister is preparing his people for war on the political front and choosing a culture of death on the ethical front. And this is true across the board. On March 6, the Polish Ministry of Education announced that sex-education classes based on World Health Organization (WHO) guidelines will replace the family-life education previously taught in schools, as The European Conservative points out.
At the same time, a whole new legislative arsenal against "hate speech" was passed by the country's Supreme Court: speaking out against the LGBT movement, "gender transitions," or sexual orientation could be punishable by several months imprisonment.
"This law has only one goal: to silence people and imprison them for opinions that normally have the right to be expressed in a democratic state," commented Michal Wos, a member of parliament for the conservative opposition party PiS. These laws signal an attack on freedom of expression as much as on traditional values.
They give particular emphasis to the words spoken by J.D. Vance in Munich on February 15th, before an audience comprised of heads of state: "The threat that worries me most in Europe is not Russia, nor China, nor any other external actor. What worries me is the threat coming from within."
"It's Europe's retreat from some of its most fundamental values, the values it shares with the United States of America," warned the American Vice President, before concluding with a vibrant "God bless you."
Some Catholics are not mistaken. "If we do not resist these attacks now, Polish Christians will soon find themselves in the same position as believers in Western Europe: persecuted, silenced and forced to hide their faith in public life," warns Jerzy Kwasniewski, president of the Ordo Iuris Legal Institute.
