Pope Benedict XVI has completed his first encyclical, currently being translated for publication before the end of the year. The first doctrinal text of the new pope is a personal  meditation of 46 pages, in its German version, on the mission of the Church in Society.

The imminent publication of the first encyclical of Benedict XVI has been thought to be a certainty for several weeks by Vatican experts. The date of December 8, which coincides with the feast of the Immaculate Conception and the 40th Anniversary of the conclusion of Vatican Council II, has been put forward on several occasions.

But the beginning of the pontificate of the German pope, notes the agency Zenit, has been characterized by an extreme discretion in communication, and the previously best informed persons are now most often reduced to guesswork.
