The priest must celebrate Mass every day

This is one of the messages given by the Pope to the priests of the diocese of Rome, whom he received on 6th March, as he is accustomed to do every year.
"The celebration of Mass can not but be, for each one of us, the centre of our lives and the the most important moment of each day," declared John Paul II during his discourse. "We have no other alternative!"

To have to remind priests to celebrate the Mass each day is not new in the history of the Church. We must bear in mind, however, that this kind of reminder, of something so fundamental, has always been given during periods of decadence. Furthermore, it confirms the fact that the New Mass is not something which fills priests with enthusiasm for their priestly ideal.
