Archbishop Guido Pozzo

On July 18, 2018, in Lichén, Poland, Archbishop Guido Pozzo, secretary of the Pontifical Ecclesia Dei Commission, explained that it would be wrong to consider the Society of St. Pius X as schismatic. However, the Holy See does consider the Society’s situation irregular for the following reason: “The problem will remain so long as the Society of St. Pius X does not adhere to the doctrinal declaration approved by Pope Francis and presented by the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith.”

Fr. Gleize, professor of ecclesiology at the St. Pius X Seminary in Ecône, drew a sober conclusion in the review Courrier de Rome (#612, July-August 2018) as to what is really at stake: “The problem, therefore, is indeed, first and foremost, a doctrinal problem. In Rome’s own eyes, the canonical recognition depends on the resolution of this problem.”

Here is an article he wrote for FSSPX.News, further developing this conclusion and explaining exactly what the real problem is and how the Society of St. Pius X, a work of the Church, far from entertaining a schismatic spirit, serves the Catholic Faith and the Apostolic See in all truth.
