In Sweden the God of the Lutherans Is Declined in the Neuter
In order to make the liturgy more “inclusive” and less “discriminatory” for “sexual minorities”, Swedish Protestantism is acquiring the habit of avoiding the use of the masculine pronoun for God.
The question of God’s gender has for a long time been at the heart of important theological controversies in the Swedish Lutheran cult, the country’s official religion and one of the most liberal religions in the world… It is also one of the religions that is the most affected by relativism: according to a study in 2011, only 15% of its members believe in Jesus Christ.
In this perspective, in order to make their cult more “inclusive”, there exist three versions of the formula “in the name of the Father, of the Son and of the Holy Spirit”, one of these versions being in the neuter. The masculine pronoun “he” has also been removed from the Gloria.
Martin Luther’s religion is declining in Sweden both numerically and morally: it authorizes homosexual unions, and even offers a groundbreaking example: the “female bishop” of Stockholm is in a relationship with a female pastor.
Fortunately, more and more Swedes are abandoning this religion and turning to Catholicism: the Church’s faithful in the kingdom have increased by 40% in 15 years. But they remain a minority.
