On October 29, Cardinal Walter Kasper, President of the Pontifical Council for Christian Unity, was invited to the Dies Academicus of the Institute of Orthodox Theology of Higher Education of the Orthodox Center of the Ecumenical Patriarchate in Chambésy, near Geneva. During his talk, Cardinal Kasper came out in favor of an unshakable commitment on the part of the Catholic Church to ecumenism, but he also condemned the practice of intercommunion between denominations.

The German cardinal also discussed the triple attack in New Delhi, India, which resulted in at least 61 deaths and 188 injuries, stating that there would be " no possible peace in the world without peace among the religions ". This expression recalls the title of the conference of progressive theologian Hans Küng: " there will be no world peace without religious peace " published in his Project of Global Ethics on the Threshold in 1990, following the Symposium of UNESCO, in Paris, in 1989, on the subject " no world peace without religious peace ".
