The Three Masses of the Feast of Christmas

In the Roman Rite, the characteristic of the feast of Christmas is the use of three Masses: one at the first rooster’s crow, one around dawn, and the third in broad daylight.

This custom is already attested by St. Gregory, but is certainly older, since the Liber Pontificalis claims that is Pope Telesphorus who first introduced the singing of Gloria in excelsis Deo on Christmas night.
