The Tragic Death of Vincent Lambert

Severely handicapped following a traffic accident in 2008, the justice of men and a doctor forgetful of his Hippocratic oath felt that his life was not worth living, and that to lavish on him  the most basic care—food and water—would constitute unreasonable obstinacy, i.e., extraordinary treatment.

Despite numerous approaches and a heroic fight with their lawyers, Vincent Lambert’s parents are mourning their son today, a victim of active euthanasia, an assassination in disguise.

“Vincent’s death...was imposed on him as on us...we can only resign ourselves in sorrow and incomprehension, but also in hope,” they wrote shortly before this death.
