The Uganda Episcopal Conference has asked the government to reconsider its bill on national sexuality education (NSEF) in order to make it compatible with Catholic doctrine, reported the Ugandan newspaper New Vision on June 14, 2018.

Archbishop Jean-Baptiste Obama, archbishop of Gulu and president of the country’s episcopal conference, warned:

In the event that the NSEF remains unchanged with provisions and directives that are contrary to Christian values, we shall not be able in conscience to have it introduced and taught in our Christian founded schools.

The Church’s official statement was published on June 14, 2018. The Ugandan prelates regret the fact that the government paid no heed to the remarks and suggestions made by several Catholic experts: “We have been substantially ignored,” said Archbishop Odama. Worse yet, the government’s bill promotes birth control and the Gender theory.

The Archbishop lamented further:

...the bill fails to answer some crucial questions such as the vital role of the family especially in the early ages and why children in the early years between 3 to 5 are exposed to content and life skills which are not appropriate for their ages.
