The life of Josemaria Escriva de Balaguer (1902-1975) will soon be the subject of a film. The director Rolan Joffe has already begun shooting the film in Argentina. Hollywood director Heriberto Shoeffer, a member of the Opus Dei, launched the project. British actor Charlie Cox plays the part of Escriva de Ballaguer.
In 1986, Roland Joffé, 63 years old, had shot Mission about the Jesuit missionaries in Paraguay in the 18th century, with Robert De Niro and Jeremy Irons in the cast. Mission had won the gold medal in the Festival of Cannes. Joffe declared that the Opus Dei was in no way influencing his upcoming film, that he was the only person responsible for its producing and had full control over it.
