United States : In New York, 41% of pregnancies end in abortion

According to recent statistics released by the Department of Health of New York, about 41% of unborn children are victims of abortion in this city. Furthermore, the figure rises to 48% in the Bronx. Most of the women who undergo abortion belong to African-American and Hispanic minority groups. The Department of Health states that there were 87,273 abortions performed in the five boroughs of the city in 2009.
Following the publication of these figures, the Catholic Archbishop of New York City, Archbishop Timothy Michael Dolan, chairman of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, called on all city officials to take action to implement a collaborative effort to lower the rate of abortion.
