United States: News on the Rosary Crusade
On February 21, 2014, the United States District of the Society of St. Pius X announced on its website that the American faithful have made a generous response to the new Rosary Crusade that began on January 1, and will end on June 8, the feast of Pentecost. The first results recorded in the country were impressive: almost 200,000 rosaries were counted just for the month of January. As the United States District pointed out: “It is encouraging to see the level of response to the call for the Rosary Crusade and we hope that this will continue to increase.” With an invitation to all the faithful attached to Tradition: “Please be an apostle for Our Lady and encourage your family and friends to join the Rosary Crusade, which is being offered for the benefit of the entire Catholic Church, and not just the SSPX.” – Already in 2010, during the last Rosary Crusade, the United States District proved its fervor by taking first place in the list of results with almost 5.5 million rosaries.
The editorial from the latest Nouvelles de Chrétienté (News of Christianity) that just came out (#145 – January-February 2014) reminds us of the spirit of this Rosary Crusade “that invites us to develop ‘the spirit of sacrifice in union with the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass’, (and that) is based on the crusade Archbishop Marcel Lefebvre called for in 1979, a crusade for the Mass of all times. By our rosaries, we beg Our Lady, standing at the foot of the Cross, to obtain for us, in this time of crisis, the supernatural intelligence that she had of the mystery of the Redemption, when in the eyes of men all seemed lost. And even the apostles deserted Calvary.
“The founder of the Society of St. Pius X presented this crusade for the Mass as a testament. Ten years later, he began writing his spiritual testament, which he published in 1990, under the title A Spiritual Journey. He showed in it that all the benefits of Christian civilization come from the Sacrifice of the Cross renewed in an un-bloody manner on the altar. (…) Against de-Christianization, for civilization, that is why we are rallied here today. With Mary, for Jesus, for His reign over souls, families and societies, that is the goal of the 5 million rosaries that are to be recited during this Rosary Crusade, so thrilling by its missionary nature.”
On the eve of Lent, it is useful to reread the advice given by Bishop Bernard Fellay, Superior General of the Society of St. Pius X, when he launched this crusade: “Prayer is the most fruitful when accompanied by acts of penance and good works. When we see what erases sin – Holy Scripture tells us it is alms – then charity towards our neighbor covers a multitude of sins. It all goes together. We are in a fight against sin, a fight against the forces of evil, the devil and his followers. And so just as this evil world tries to pollute souls with temptations and sin, the Christian must do exactly the opposite.” (see DICI no.291 dated February 28, 2014)
