United States: The State of Ohio restricts abortion conditions
The parliament of the State of Ohio, in the center of the United States, has passed a bill forbidding abortion once the fetus’ heart can be heard, that is, after the sixth week of pregnancy.
According to the American information agency Catholic News Agency (CNA) on December 7, 2016, the new legislation must however be approved by the Federal Supreme Court in order to take effect. A very uncertain prospect, since in June 2016 this same court cancelled a law voted by the Texas parliament in 2013 that also restricted abortion.
The election of Donald Trump as president – that will become effective in January 2017 – nonetheless inspires new hope among the pro-life militants, since the New York millionaire has promised several times to name federal judges more inclined to restrict abortion.
