The new United States ambassador to the Holy See, Callista Louise Gingrich, presented her credentials to the sovereign pontiff on December 22, 2017. She was received for an audience along with her husband, Newt Gingrich.
“Ambassador Gingrich greeted the Pope and expressed enthusiasm for her new position,” announced the United States embassy to the Holy See. After her meeting with the Pope, the new ambassador met with Cardinal Pietro Parolin, Vatican Secretary of State.
The candidature of this conservative fervent Catholic was presented by President Donald Trump last May and approved by the United States Senate on October 16, 2017. “I start each day with a prayer, and pray throughout the day, because I am grateful for the many blessings that God has bestowed upon us," she declared at the time on the TV channel CBN.
