Vatican. On the Christian roots of Europe

During his Sunday audience at St. Peter’s Square, Pope John-Paul II affirmed that such a reference “takes nothing away from the legitimate laicization of political structures, but, on the contrary, will help to preserve Europe from the two-fold risk of ideological laicism, and sectarian fundamentalism. (…) United on the values and the memory of their own past, the European nations will be able to play their role to the full in the promotion of justice and peace throughout in the world.”
