A detail of a fresco from the Sistine Chapel, the work of the Flemish painter Hendrick van den Broeck (1519-1597), adorns the Easter stamp just issued by the Vatican.  Having a value of 0.75 euro, it was made available to philatelists on March 21 at the Vatican [Post Office].  The image depicts the resurrection of Christ.  It is actually a copy of a work by Domenico Ghirlandaio (1449-1494) which was destroyed in 1522 by the collapse of the lintel at the entrance to the Sistine Chapel.  The stamp was printed in an edition of 600,000 copies.  The Vatican also issued on March 21 a stamp worth 1.60 euro for the 300th anniversary of the death of the Italian missionary Eusebio Francisco Chini (1645-1711), who founded a number of missionary centers in Mexico.  (Sources : apic/imedia/vatican.va – DICI no. 233 dated April 16, 2011)
