A wide and generous application of the motu proprio Ecclesia Dei…

A young priest of the diocese of Autun, pastor of a parish in the vicinity of Chalon-sur-Saône, was celebrating the New Mass, but usually wore the cassock, and was moving toward Tradition. This pleased the Catholics of the area, since 300 people attended his Sunday masses. It was too much for the bishop, Mgr Raymond Séguy, who literally threw this priest out of his diocese (maybe he has too many priests…). Last fall, priests of the Society of St. Pius X from the priory of Dijon began to go to Chalon-sur-Saône one Sunday per month, to say Mass for the faithful of that area who were asking for it. During the 15 years he has been bishop of Autun, Mgr Séguy has never authorized the traditional mass in his vast diocese, neither at Autun, nor Mâcon, nor Chalon, nor at Paray-le-Monial, nor elsewhere. And now he has authorized the celebration of a traditional mass every other Sunday — so the faithful will not lose all the benefits of the new liturgy —, and where might this be? Near Chalon-sur-Saône! Here is yet another example of the hypocrisy of the bishops: if Mgr Séguy authorized this mass, it was not due to his love for the traditional liturgy, but to compete with the apostolate of the Society of St. Pius X, and to “fish out” the faithful tempted to go to its chapels.
