Spiritual and Doctrinal Texts for the Pentecost Pilgrimage of 2019 Available

The spiritual and doctrinal texts for the Pentecost Pilgrimage of 2019 celebrate the 500th anniversary of the apparition of Our Lady of Graces in Cotignac (France).
“We must give ourselves to the truth as Mary gave herself to God.” This summarizes the intent of this pilgrimage, explains Fr. de Jorna Superior of the District of France, in the introduction.
In the morning of August 10, 1519, Jean de la Baume, who lived in a cave in the rock of Cotignac, went to Mont Verdaille. In a whirlwind of light, Our Lady appeared to him, standing with her feet on a crescent moon, carrying the Infant Jesus in her arms. Three persons surrounded her, St. Michael the Archangel, St. Catherine and St. Bernard of Clairvaux.
The next day, the apparition returned. But this time the beautiful Lady spoke to the woodcutter: “I am the Virgin Mary. Go tell the clergy and the authorities of Cotignac to build me a church on this place, under the name of Our Lady of Graces, and let processions be made here to receive the graces I wish to pour forth.” (DDS p. 14 – 15)
The presence of the Infant Jesus enthroned in Our Lady's arms, means that Mary is the Mother of God. The order that she sent to the clergy signifies that Mary is Mother of the Church. The same order to the authorities means that Mary is Queen of France. The promise of graces means that Mary is Mediatrix and Distributor of heavenly gifts. (DDS p. 17)
In 1519, Christianity was in the first throes of shock after the revolt of Martin Luther (1483 – 1540) who denied the fundamental truths of the Catholic religion; soon he was to separate himself loudly from the Church by denying the doctrine of indulgences, the authority of the Pope, priestly celibacy, monastic vows, the cult of the saints—especially that of Our Lady—the doctrine of Purgatory, and, of course, the Mass. This was a formidable heresy that was to attack the faith of Catholics, threaten the Eldest Daughter of the Church, and put Germany, a few years later, to fire and sword.
The texts are based on the theme, “To Serve Christianity: 500 Years since the Apparitions of Cotignac.” They show us how to remedy the situation caused by the secret societies organized in the 16th century, by the Protestant destruction of dogmas and Tradition, by the Moslem peril which the Abbot of Clairvaux sought to eradicate... all dangers that continue to threaten France and the Church today.
The presence of Saint Michel in the apparition reminds us that we must fight; St. Catherine of Alexandria reminds us to study and to suffer; St. Bernard, on his knees, reminds us that we must pray, and all three remind us that France, the Eldest Daughter of the Church, must lead “a war without truce and without quarter” against the enemies of the Faith.
